Formula Renault championship leader Oscar Piastri to test Formula 3 car with Prema Racing
Talented Australian racer Oscar Piastri is set for his first laps in FIA Formula 3 Championship machinery as he tests with front-running outfit Prema Racing at Valencia on 20-21 October.
Currently leading the Formula Renault Eurocup standings with just two races left to run, Oscar has secured more victories than anyone else in the series this season, with six to his name, and has ten podiums in the 18 races to date.
The 18-year old is keen to gain first-hand experience of the brand-new Dallara F3 2019 car as he evaluates options for the 2020 season, after testing the previous iteration of GP3 Series machinery at Yas Marina last year.
Prema Racing, which also competes as Prema Powerteam, is one of the most successful junior single-seater racing teams in operation. In 2019 alone it has taken both the Teams’ and Drivers’ Championship titles in FIA Formula 3 and the Teams’, Drivers’, and Rookie title in the Formula Regional European Championship.
In addition, it is currently in second and third place in the Drivers’, second in the Teams’ and leading the Rookie standings in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, is third in the ADAC Formel 4 Drivers’ rankings, and has taken a race victory in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
“I am excited to be driving with Prema Racing next week. After testing in the GP3 Series last year I am looking forward to seeing how this year’s FIA Formula 3 car compares to the experience.
“When you look at the history of the team, the drivers it has worked with as they’ve been making their way to the top levels of racing, and the excellent results it has this season as well, you can see that it has a winning mentality, so I cannot wait to spend a few days with them.
“The FIA Formula 3 Championship is a fantastic series full of the best teams and drivers around, so it would be a logical destination for next year. However, for now, I am concentrating on the final rounds of the Formula Renault Eurocup and securing the championship title at Yas Marina.”
